Add THOR ECHO
ECHO is an optional high-frequency module that can be added to Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3. The main STORM and THUNDER 2.0 speakers provide the body, low frequencies and mid-range of the exhaust sound, while ECHO adds extra upper-frequency detail.
This gives the system a brighter and more expressive character and adds extra definition to higher-frequency effects such as sharp throttle transitions and pops. Because THOR is modular, ECHO can be selected with a new system or added later to an existing compatible setup.
The maximum current THOR configuration supports two main loudspeakers plus one ECHO module.

How THOR Active Sound Works
Vehicle Data In. Responsive Sound Out.
The THOR ECU connects to the vehicle's CAN bus and reads operating data such as engine speed, throttle position, acceleration and other supported vehicle parameters. THOR uses that information to generate sound in real time, so the sound follows what the vehicle is actually doing rather than simply playing a fixed audio track.
The CAN connection is used for reading vehicle information. THOR does not need to alter engine calibration or replace the original exhaust system.
THOR creates its exhaust profiles from recordings of real vehicles and builds the playback from multiple audio layers. The result changes through idle, acceleration, RPM build-up, throttle lift-off and other driving conditions.
The Hardware
- THOR ECU: processes vehicle data, stores sound content and drives the system.
- STORM: lightweight, balanced main loudspeaker with a versatile sound character.
- THUNDER 2.0: premium main loudspeaker focused on deeper bass and stronger sound presence.
- ECHO: optional high-frequency component adding extra clarity and upper-frequency detail.
One or two main THOR loudspeakers are mounted securely underneath the vehicle, while the ECU is installed inside the cabin and connected to the vehicle's power and CAN circuits.

Petrol, Diesel, Hybrid or Electric
THOR is designed as a broadly compatible active sound platform for modern CAN-bus vehicles. The manufacturer supports petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles, with most compatible applications dating from approximately model year 2005 onwards.
During setup, the correct vehicle profile is selected in the THOR app so the ECU can interpret the required CAN data. If a newly released or uncommon vehicle is not yet present in the database, compatibility should be confirmed before ordering or installation.
THOR for EVs
On compatible electric vehicles, THOR can generate sound using inputs such as vehicle speed, throttle and braking rather than conventional engine RPM. THOR also supports a virtual gearbox effect on compatible EV applications, creating simulated upshifts, downshifts and rev-matching-style transitions.
The same hardware can therefore be used for traditional performance-inspired exhaust profiles or more futuristic sound characters, depending on the selected vehicle and sound package.

THOR Active Sound FAQ
What is a THOR active sound system?
THOR is an electronically generated external vehicle sound system. It reads live vehicle data through CAN and uses one or more externally mounted loudspeakers to produce a responsive exhaust-style sound without replacing the vehicle's factory exhaust system.
How does THOR respond to the way I drive?
The ECU reads supported vehicle parameters such as engine speed, throttle position and acceleration data. The selected sound is generated in real time and changes with acceleration, RPM build-up, throttle lift-off and driving style rather than operating as a simple fixed audio recording.
Which THOR Level should I choose?
Choose Level 1 for the balanced STORM-based entry system, Level 2 for the deeper and more powerful THUNDER 2.0 single-speaker setup, or Level 3 for the flagship combination of THUNDER 2.0 and STORM. ECHO can be added to any level for additional high-frequency detail.
What is the difference between STORM and THUNDER 2.0?
STORM is the lighter, versatile main loudspeaker and provides a balanced sound with strong mid-range presence. THUNDER 2.0 is the premium metal-housing loudspeaker and is tuned for deeper bass, stronger low-frequency output and greater sound presence.
What does THOR ECHO add?
ECHO is an additional high-frequency component. It works alongside STORM or THUNDER 2.0 to add extra upper-frequency detail, brightness and definition. It is optional on Levels 1, 2 and 3 and can also be added later to a compatible system.
What is THOR Upgrade PRO?
Upgrade PRO unlocks the extended THOR sound library, newly released sound profiles, special and situational sounds including BOOMBOX, and additional functionality as the platform develops. Level 1 does not include PRO as standard; Levels 2 and 3 include it.
How many THOR sounds are available?
The standard Level 1 software package provides 10 core exhaust profiles. THOR's current FAQ describes the PRO library as containing more than 30 exhaust profiles plus special and situational sounds. The library continues to change as new content is released.
Can new sounds and features be added later?
Yes. THOR supports remote sound-library and system-software updates through the mobile app. THOR currently states that new sound profiles are typically released every one to two months for users with Upgrade PRO.
Can THOR be completely switched off?
Yes. The system can be muted completely through the THOR app. On supported vehicles, factory controls or Drive Select integration can also be configured for sound control.
How loud is THOR?
THOR states that system output can range approximately from 95 to 115 dB depending on the hardware configuration, installation position and user settings. Volume is adjustable through the mobile app and should always be used in accordance with local noise requirements.
Which vehicles are compatible with THOR?
THOR is designed as a broadly compatible system for modern CAN-bus vehicles and supports a wide range of petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric cars. The manufacturer states that most supported applications are from approximately model year 2005 onwards. The correct vehicle/CAN profile is selected during setup, and compatibility should be confirmed for uncommon or newly released vehicles.
Can THOR be fitted to a diesel vehicle?
Yes. Diesel vehicles are one of the most obvious applications for active sound because THOR can create a much more expressive performance sound without changing the factory exhaust hardware.
Can THOR be fitted to hybrid and electric vehicles?
Yes, where a compatible CAN profile is available. On EV applications THOR uses vehicle data such as speed, throttle and braking to generate sound. Compatible EV setups can also use THOR's virtual gearbox effects to simulate shifts and other performance-car transitions.
Does THOR require modification of the factory exhaust?
No exhaust-pipe modification is required for the THOR system itself. The acoustic units are mounted underneath the vehicle and operate independently of the original exhaust flow and emissions-control hardware.
Does THOR change engine performance or fuel consumption?
THOR is a sound system rather than an engine-performance modification. Its CAN connection reads supported vehicle data but does not tune the engine or command the drivetrain. It does not increase engine output or change the factory exhaust system.
Does THOR affect emissions equipment?
THOR does not require removal or modification of the catalytic converter, diesel particulate filter or other factory emissions hardware. It changes the vehicle's external sound rather than its exhaust-gas treatment.
How long does THOR installation take?
THOR quotes an average installation time of around 5–8 hours. The actual time depends on the vehicle, speaker mounting location, electrical access and whether additional CAN-profile work is required.
Can I install THOR myself?
THOR states that self-installation is possible for people experienced with automotive electronics, but recommends a specialist installation centre. The system requires correct CAN and power connections together with secure underbody mounting. Products carrying our professional-installation warning must be professionally installed to protect the applicable warranty.
Can a THOR system be moved to another car?
Yes. THOR is modular and can be removed and installed in another compatible vehicle. The wiring or mounting arrangement may need to change, and the correct CAN profile needs to be selected for the new vehicle.
Can I upgrade my THOR system later?
Yes. Level 1 can be expanded with THUNDER 2.0, ECHO and Upgrade PRO. Level 2 can add STORM and ECHO, while Level 3 can add ECHO. The ECU supports up to two main THOR loudspeakers plus one ECHO module in the current maximum configuration.
Does THOR work in rain and normal winter conditions?
The external acoustic components are designed for underbody automotive use and exposure to normal road conditions, while the ECU is installed inside the vehicle. Correct mounting and wiring remain important for long-term reliability.
Can THOR be used during water crossings?
THOR recommends switching the system off if the acoustic units may become partially or fully submerged. A speaker diaphragm operating in water is subjected to much higher mechanical load than it is in air. Once clear of the water, reactivate the system at low volume before gradually increasing it.
What is Drive Select integration?
On supported vehicles, THOR can associate sound presets with factory drive modes such as Comfort and Sport. Changing the vehicle's drive mode can then change, mute or activate the corresponding THOR profile without needing to use the phone each time.
What should I check if the THOR app cannot find the ECU?
Check that Bluetooth is enabled, the vehicle and THOR system are powered, and the ECU is not already connected to another phone. Restart the app or phone and try again. If the device still cannot be detected, check the system connections and contact technical support.
Can THOR be used on public roads?
THOR does not require the factory exhaust system to be replaced, but vehicle-noise rules still apply. Requirements and permitted noise levels vary by location, so the system should be operated at an appropriate volume and in accordance with the rules applying where the vehicle is driven. THOR can be reduced in volume or switched off completely when required.
Where can I get THOR support and installation information?
Installation manuals, app instructions, Drive Select information and component technical documents are linked above.
