DQ381 DSG Oil Pump Repair Kit - P0C2900, Gearbox Malfunction & Start-Stop Pump Faults
DQ381 DSG7 oil pump repair kit 0GC398008D
A gearbox malfunction warning, limp mode or a DSG that suddenly loses half its gears can point to a problem with the DQ381's hydraulic oil supply. Where diagnosis confirms an auxiliary pump fault, this repair kit provides the replacement pump and associated components needed for the repair.
Part number 0GC398008D is used with compatible Volkswagen Group DQ381 / 0GC seven-speed wet-clutch transmissions, fitted to selected Audi, Volkswagen, Škoda, SEAT and CUPRA models.
Symptoms associated with a DQ381 oil pump fault
Owners may describe the problem as:
- "Gearbox malfunction" or "Gearbox fault" appearing on the dashboard
- The gearbox warning light coming on
- The car entering gearbox emergency mode or limp mode
- Only gears 1, 3, 5 and 7 working
- Only gears 2, 4 and 6 working
- The DSG losing access to one group of gears while the other group remains available
Jerky or delayed gear engagement may also be reported, but these symptoms can have several causes. A transmission scan and fault assessment establish whether the pump repair is appropriate.
P0C2900: auxiliary transmission oil pump fault
The main fault code associated with this repair is P0C2900, also displayed as P0C29. Diagnostic equipment may describe it as "Auxiliary Transmission Fluid Pump Driver Circuit Performance" or implausible activation of the auxiliary hydraulic pump.
The DQ381 uses a mechanically driven main oil pump together with an electrically driven auxiliary hydraulic pump. The auxiliary pump supports oil supply during operation and maintains pressure during engine start-stop operation, when the mechanically driven pump is not turning.
A fault in this system can trigger gearbox warnings and restricted transmission operation. The repair concerns the gearbox's oil-pump system; it is not an engine oil-pump repair.
Repair the pump fault before further damage develops
Documented failures include auxiliary pump securing bolts working loose. Depending on the condition of the pump and surrounding components, this can lead to internal transmission damage.
During repair, the workshop should inspect for loose or missing fasteners, debris and damage to the transmission casing and internal components. This kit provides the listed replacement parts; additional repairs depend on what inspection finds.
For workshops and transmission specialists
This kit suits professional repairs where the DQ381 oil-pump fault has been identified. It combines the pump with filters, the oil pan and associated seals and fitting components, helping the workshop prepare the parts required for the job.
Installation involves transmission removal and internal access. Follow the applicable manufacturer repair procedure, including fluid specifications, replacement fasteners, software checks and diagnostic basic settings.

My DSG only has odd or even gears. Can this kit fix it?
A DQ381 auxiliary pump fault can cause emergency operation with only gears 1, 3, 5 and 7, or only gears 2, 4 and 6 available. This kit is suitable where diagnosis confirms the relevant pump fault. Restricted gear selection can also result from other transmission faults.
Is this the repair kit for fault code P0C2900?
Part number 0GC398008D is used in the documented DQ381 auxiliary hydraulic pump repair procedure associated with P0C2900. The workshop should confirm the fault and the correct parts for the gearbox before installation.
Does this repair P173500 or P173600 mechatronic faults?
This is an oil-pump repair kit. It does not include replacement clutch-position sensors or a complete mechatronic unit. P173500 and P173600 require their own diagnosis and repair assessment.
Does disabling start-stop fix the oil pump problem?
No. Disabling start-stop does not repair a defective pump or loose pump fasteners. The auxiliary pump also supports oil supply outside engine start-stop operation.
Does the gearbox need software work after installation?
The applicable repair procedure may require a transmission software update, fault-memory reset and basic settings. These requirements depend on the vehicle and software version. The repairer should follow the manufacturer procedure.
Does this fit every seven-speed DSG?
No. This kit is for compatible DQ381 / 0GC wet-clutch transmissions. A seven-speed DSG badge alone does not identify the gearbox. Check the transmission code and part application.
