MST Performance Intakes & Turbo Inlet Pipes Australia

MST Performance specialises in airflow upgrades for modern turbocharged vehicles, with a strong range of vehicle-specific cold air intake systems and high-flow turbo inlet pipes for popular European performance platforms.

Our MST range focuses on upgrades for Audi, BMW, MINI, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Škoda and other European vehicles. Choose a complete intake system for a larger change to the induction path and sound, upgrade the turbo inlet to reduce restriction closer to the compressor, or combine both where the application supports it.

MST Performance cold air intake systems

Cold Air Intake Systems

A complete induction upgrade from filter to intake pipework.

MST vehicle-specific intake kits are designed to increase airflow, enhance induction sound and replace restrictive sections of the factory intake while maintaining an engineered fit inside the original engine bay.

Depending on the application, kits may include a dry high-flow filter, intake pipework, heat shielding, silicone connections and vehicle-specific installation hardware.

MST Performance turbo inlet pipes

Turbo Inlet Pipes

Improve the final section of airflow into the turbocharger.

MST turbo inlet upgrades replace restrictive factory inlet components with larger or stronger alternatives designed to provide a cleaner airflow path into the compressor.

Depending on the application, MST offers inlet solutions for standard turbos, upgraded hybrid turbochargers, factory airboxes and MST intake systems.

MST Performance Cold Air Intake Systems

A complete MST intake system replaces more of the factory induction path than a simple replacement filter. The objective is to provide the engine or turbocharger with a less restrictive supply of air while maintaining suitable heat management and vehicle-specific fitment.

Many MST systems combine a large dry performance filter with revised intake pipework and a powder-coated heat shield. Some newer applications use enclosed airboxes or integrate a turbo inlet upgrade into the complete package.

The most immediately noticeable change is usually induction sound. Turbo spool, compressor noise and acceleration become substantially more audible once the restrictive and sound-suppressing elements of the original intake are replaced.

The airflow benefit becomes increasingly relevant on vehicles with higher airflow demand, including tuned engines and upgraded turbocharger applications.

MST Turbo Inlet Pipes

MST Performance high-flow turbo inlet pipe

The turbo inlet is the section of intake immediately upstream of the turbocharger compressor. On many turbocharged engines, the original inlet is shaped around packaging, manufacturing cost and noise suppression rather than maximum airflow.

MST inlet upgrades are designed to improve this section using larger-diameter or higher-flow components, depending on the engine and turbocharger.

The exact configuration matters. Some MST inlet pipes are designed to work with the factory airbox, some with an MST intake, and some are specifically engineered for upgraded hybrid turbochargers. Always select the inlet according to the complete intake and turbo combination fitted to the vehicle.

A turbo inlet can therefore be a useful standalone upgrade, but it also makes particular sense when completing a larger intake or turbocharger package.

Intake System vs Turbo Inlet Pipe

Start With the Intake System If...

  • You want a more substantial change from the factory induction system.
  • Stronger induction and turbo sound is one of your priorities.
  • You want a vehicle-specific filter, pipework and heat-management solution.
  • The vehicle is standard or mildly tuned and still uses the original intake system.

Add or Upgrade the Turbo Inlet If...

  • You want to improve airflow closer to the turbocharger.
  • Your vehicle already has an upgraded intake.
  • The factory inlet is a known restriction for the engine or turbo setup.
  • You are moving to a larger or hybrid turbo and a compatible inlet is available.

Designed Around Modern Turbocharged Engines

High-Flow Dry Filtration

MST uses dry high-flow filters across many of its current intake systems. These filters are designed to be serviceable and avoid the need for filter oil during normal maintenance.

Follow the maintenance requirements for the individual kit, as filter dimensions, construction and service intervals can vary between applications.

Heat Management Matters

Increasing filter size is only part of designing an effective intake. Many MST kits use vehicle-specific heat shields or enclosed airbox designs to help separate the filter from hotter areas of the engine bay while retaining access to the vehicle's cold-air supply.

That balance between airflow, temperature and packaging is one of the advantages of using a vehicle-specific intake rather than simply attaching a universal cone filter inside the engine bay.

Intake Upgrades for Tuned Cars

An intake or turbo inlet does not automatically require ECU tuning, and many MST products are designed to work with the standard engine calibration. However, reducing intake restriction becomes increasingly useful as airflow demand rises, which is why these upgrades are commonly combined with ECU tuning and other supporting modifications on higher-output builds.

MST Performance FAQ

What is the difference between an MST intake system and a turbo inlet pipe?

An intake system replaces the filter and a larger portion of the induction path, while a turbo inlet specifically improves the section immediately before the turbocharger compressor. Some MST kits include both, while other vehicles use separate intake and inlet upgrades.

Do I need both an intake and a turbo inlet?

Not necessarily. Either component can be useful on its own depending on the vehicle. Where compatible products are available, combining a complete intake with a higher-flow turbo inlet provides a more comprehensive upgrade to the pre-turbo airflow path.

Can an MST turbo inlet work with the factory airbox?

Some can and some cannot. MST offers application-specific inlet pipes designed for different combinations of factory airboxes, MST intake systems, standard turbochargers and upgraded turbos. Check the individual product compatibility before ordering.

Will an MST intake make the car louder?

Yes, in most turbocharged applications the induction system becomes noticeably more audible. Turbo spool, airflow and acceleration sounds are less isolated than with the standard sound-suppressing airbox and intake components.

Do MST intake systems use dry filters?

Many current MST intake kits use dry high-flow filters that are designed to be cleaned and serviced without filter oil. Always follow the maintenance instructions supplied for the specific intake system.

Does an MST intake increase power?

MST publishes application-specific dyno results for a number of its intake systems, but the result varies substantially between engines, intake designs and vehicle setups. A performance intake should be chosen primarily for its airflow capability, induction character and suitability for the complete engine package rather than assuming one universal horsepower gain.

Do I need ECU tuning after fitting an MST intake or turbo inlet?

Usually not for a straightforward intake or inlet replacement where MST specifies compatibility with the standard ECU. ECU calibration becomes more relevant when these parts form part of a wider performance package or upgraded turbocharger setup.

Can MST turbo inlet pipes be used with hybrid turbos?

Selected MST inlet kits are specifically designed for larger or hybrid turbocharger applications, while others only suit the original turbo. Match the inlet to the exact turbocharger and intake configuration rather than selecting it by engine family alone.

What does the heat shield on an MST intake do?

The heat shield helps separate the performance filter from hotter areas of the engine bay and guides the intake arrangement around the vehicle's available cold-air supply. The exact shield and filter layout varies by application.

How do I make sure an MST product fits my vehicle?

Use the vehicle fitment information on the individual product page and pay attention to engine code, model year, turbocharger version and regional differences. Where you are unsure, contact us before ordering so the application can be checked.
