Volkswagen Transporter T6 EGR and cooler delete kit

The Darkside Developments DSD2356 kit provides the hardware to blank the EGR circuit and remove the cooler on compatible Volkswagen Transporter diesel engines. The supplied fittings and silicone elbow reroute the coolant connections after cooler removal.

Suitable applications include selected Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan and California models using the engine and cooler references in the fitting note.

EGR faults and cooler-related problems

EGR-system faults can present as hesitation, uneven idle, reduced power, an engine warning light or limp mode. A leaking EGR cooler can also cause unexplained coolant loss.

This kit provides a hardware solution for a compatible EGR-delete installation. Diagnosis should establish whether the reported problem concerns the valve, cooler or another component, so the work addresses the actual cause.

Cooler removal with matching coolant connections

The kit goes beyond fitting a basic blanking plate: it includes the components needed to reroute the cooler's coolant connections as part of the removal.

Scope of delivery:

• 1x Large EGR blanking plate
• 2x Medium EGR blanking plates
• 2x Gaskets for the medium plates
• 1x Small EGR blanking plate
• 1x Gasket for the small plate
• 1x 90-degree silicone elbow
• 1x CNC-machined EGR cooler fitting
• 1x Fitting kit

Depending on the EGR arrangement, installation uses either two medium plates or one medium and one small plate. One plate and its gasket will remain unused.

Complete the modification with ECU tuning

The physical modification must be matched by suitable ECU calibration. Without the required software changes, the ECU can detect unexpected EGR operation and trigger an emissions warning light, fault codes or limp mode.

If your vehicle still needs this calibration, select the optional mail-in ECU tuning service when ordering. This requires you to send your engine ECU to us. Customers who already have suitable EGR software can purchase the kit on its own.

For installation and tuning at our Sunshine Coast workshop, request an ECU tuning and installation quote. Include the engine code, existing modifications and whether the DPF is being retained. We can also assess a performance remap alongside the EGR software work.

Intake cleaning alongside the installation

Changing EGR operation does not remove soot and oily carbon already deposited in the inlet manifold. Where deposits restrict airflow, cleaning addresses the existing buildup.
